Caroline McGrane

My Story

My name is Caroline Catone McGrane, born and brought up in East
Boston. I attended and graduated from East Boston High School. I
attended the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) art school. I consider myself
a self-taught innovative artist.

I met my husband John, also an East Boston native, in 1961. We married in 1966 and have two children, Marla and Michael. While
raising my children, I was unable to devote time to my artistic talents. I also utilized my artistic skills as a long-term cosmetologist. I owned and operated a beauty salon “Transitions” in Newton for several years. I also helped friends with the interior decoration of their homes.

In 1972, we bought a home in Saugus and remained there for over 50 years, from where my children attended high schools and college. After college, as my children grew older, I was able to devote more time to my painting and my cosmetology business and interior decorating.

During Covid, I would go to the Saugus Iron Works and paint in the fresh air (Plein-air). I love vibrant colors in a contemporary style as is evident in my paintings. Both my husband and I are now retired enjoying our leisure with our children and grand-children together, especially January through May in Florida.

I hope that you enjoy viewing my paintings as much as I did while painting them.
